Job Summary Provide culturally relevant educational opportunities and prevention services to youth based on the Tribe's values, tradition and culture through in school, after school and summer programming. The Youth Council Coordinator will be responsible for collaboratively developing a Youth Council model within the Yaghanen program. The Coordinator will then oversee the Youth Council, facilitate meetings, coordinate events, and advocate for youth issues within the program. Additionally, the Youth Council Coordinator will provide support in the development and implementation of culturally appropriate lessons and projects within the Yaghanen K-12 program.
Essential Functions - Works with Tribal Council AD-HOC to develop a Youth Council program
- Works as a team member within the Yaghanen program to ensure cultural programming is appropriately reflected
- Provides supervision and direction for youth participating in the Tribe's youth programs, including summer camps, Native Youth Olympics, Jabila'ina Dance Group, and Del Dumi Drum Group
- Provides academic support and develops culturally appropriate lessions for the Naqut'ana enrichment program
- Facilitates regular meetings of the Youth Council, including setting agendas, documenting minutes, ensuring proper implementation of Robert's Rules, and maintaining effective SMART goal setting
- Collaborates with youth members to develop and implement projects, events, and initiatives
- Serves as a liaison between Youth Council and Tribal Council, advocating for youth perspectives and needs
- Coordinates logistics for Youth Council activies, including budget management, scheduling, and communication
- Evaluates the effectiveness of Youth Council programs and initiatives, and makes recommendations for improvement
- Maintains communication with community partners and stakeholders to enhance opportunities for youth involvement
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications Education
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, or a related field; or a combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience of teaching middle and high school aged children or working with youth in a leadership or mentorship capacity
Preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
- Knowledge of council, board, commissions and committees functions
- Valid Type C Special Services Certificate
License/Certification
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
- Must have Pediatric/Adult First Aid/CPR, or obtain within 90 days of hire
Special Skills
- Working with students with disabilities and mixed age groups
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
- Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines
- Good oral and written communication
This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
