Position Summary
The UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center Research Administration (CCRA) office is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Events Planner to provide essential administrative support within the office. This position will primarily engage with faculty and staff of the Cancer Center providing coordination for research related events, with additional responsibilities providing programmatic support for UNMCCC Research Programs. The Events Planner will plan and coordinate day-to-day administrative and operational activities related to research events such as lectures, meetings, and retreats, as well as assist with data management and various other administrative tasks. Duties typically include event planning and logistics, event administration and facilitation, event marketing, data collection, purchasing, and budget management.
Specific details of job duties and responsibilities are:
•Provides administrative support in the development, implementation, and marketing of UNMCCC events.
•Serves as a principal liaison between faculty and staff on day-to-day programmatic, operational, and administrative issues to facilitate seminars, meetings, and special projects.
•Monitors and administers program/project revenues and expenses; may participate in the development of event budgets for the program.
•Writes, edits, and coordinates promotional materials and marketing emails, as appropriate to the program or event.
•Prepares scheduled and special reports; maintains program/project records and information.
•Performs clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation and editing of program correspondence, meeting minutes, purchasing documents, event documents, and reports.
•Assists with data collection and organization for large programmatic grants.
•May perform specialized activities of a programmatic nature in direct support of accomplishing program objectives and protocol.
The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its more than 136 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico's cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated almost 15,000 patients in more than 100,000 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of nearly 1,855 patients participated in cancer clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 123 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $38.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published nearly 1000 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 500 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED;at least 5 years ofexperience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
•Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
•Experience in coordinating, implementing, and executing events.
•Skilled in organizing multiple tasks and prioritizing duties; extremely detail oriented.
•Ability to work independently; self-starting and motivated.
•Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse environment.
•Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
•Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
•Record and database maintenance skills; ability to gather data and generate reports.
•Advanced writing and editorial skills.
•Clerical and/or administrative office skills.
•Experience with UNM purchasing policies and procedures.
